Our Local Metropolis

Have you ever wondered who staffs our local Metropolis in Detroit?  Well here are some interesting facts:

 

His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas is our
Metropolitan. He was elected Bishop of the Diocese of Detroit
in 1999 and later was elevated as the Metropolitan of the
Metropolis of Detroit in 2002. Please see His Eminence full

Fr. William Bartz is the Chancellor. The Chancellor is the
first among the priests in the Metropolis and works and
administers his duties at the behest of the Metropolitan for
the entire Metropolis. Amongst the duties of the Chancellor,
Fr. Bill assists the Metropolitan in the assignment of priests,
coordinating the office, accompanying the Metropolitan on
certain pastoral visits, assisting the priest in their parishes,
coordinating replacement priests for sickness or vacation, etc.
Fr. Bill was just appointed as the Chancellor this past August.
Fr. Dean Hountalas is the Vicar General of the Metropolis
(part time). He was the Chancellor from 1999 until August
of this year. Fr. Dean is tasked with developing an innovative
program for financial responsibility specifically geared to
the faithful, amongst his other tasks at the behest of the
Metropolitan. Fr. Dean is also the proistamenos at the Holy
Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Farmington Hills.
Fr. Teodore Petrutiu is the Registrar for the Metropolis
(part time) and deals primarily, but not exclusively, with
the paperwork needed for weddings, divorces, baptisms,
funerals, etc. Fr. Teodor is also the Proistamenos at Saints
Constantine and Helen Church in Westland.
Fr. Chrysostomos (Chris) Dalamanges is the assistant to
the Registrar, Fr. Teodor, and works as a volunteer at the
Metropolis. Fr. Chris is retired and now resides here in
Michigan after spending many years on the east coast.

Harriet Stoukas is the Executive Administrative Assistant.  She coordinates the phone calls, paperwork, financials, the calendar and appointments of the Metropolitan and most everything else that has to do with the day to day operation of the Metropolis office. She is often the first face or voice of the Metropolis. She is a life-long member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in St. Clair Shores, held many offices and responsibilities there and also is on the Metropolis Philoptochos Board.

Eva Kokinos is the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries. She travels often throughout all of the Metropolis and assists parishes with their youth programs, coordinates youth worker training programs, is the director of the St. Nicholas Camp in Tennessee, and overlooks all aspects of youth and young adult ministries throughout the Metropolis. She also is a member of the national youth worker team and works with the Archdiocesan Youth Director and Directors of the other Metropolises on various issues. She travels very frequently to other parishes, and when she does not, is a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Sterling Heights.

Alex Radulescu is the Assistant to the Metropolitan. He assists the Metropolitan in all of the Metropolitan’s travels, maintains the Metropolitan’s liturgical appointments (vestments, books, etc.), and maintains and updates the Metropolis web site amongst many other duties. Alex went to theological school in Romania and is recently engaged. 

Kyria Anna Diamantaras is the housekeeper extraordinaire of the Metropolis. She has worked there nearly forty years. She is in many ways the center of vibrancy and life at the Metropolis and warms the hearts of everyone who visits with her incredible cooking and heart-felt philoxenia (welcoming, love and care for visitors).

The Metropolis offices are located at 2560 Crooks Road in Troy. The offices were moved from their long-standing location in Detroit in 2003. The Metropolis Office is paid for completely. It is a two story building with ample parking. On the second floor is the Chapel of St. Spyridon, offices for the Metropolitan, Chancellor, Vicar General, Registrar and Assistant Registrar, Youth Director, a spare office, office space for the Metropolis Choir (when needed), a copy room, and a spare dining area. On the first floor is the formal office of the Metropolitan, conference room, waiting room, administration office (Harriet Stoukas’ office), office for the Metropolis Philoptochos, a bookstore, dining room and kitchen. The building also has a full basement for storage.
