PARISH COUNCIL MEETING

June 11th Council Meeting Highlights
Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m.
Members Present:
Karen Kain, Helen Knapp, Doug Partlo, Harriet Rennie, Bob Underwood and Judy Weston.
Guests Present:
Elizabeth Husby
Opening Prayer:
Bob Underwood let the assembled in the opening prayer.
Approval of the Minutes:
A motion by Judy Weston, seconded by Doug Parrlo to accept the minutes of the May 13, 2008
meeting as prepared by Tina Partlo. Motion passed unanimously.
Stewardship Update:
The council discussed the Stewardship Report as presented by Helen Dalbo. It was noted that
since Father Iakovos appointment to Traverse City, we have an 18% increase of new members
and friends.
Taste of Greece:
Bob Underwood reported that the Taste of Greece committee has met once. The menu has been
set and some of the food ordered. So far the cost of the food is about the same as last year.
However, the paper and plastic products are expected to run slightly higher. Bob and John have
met with officials at St. Francis and everything is going well.
Financial Report:
The reports from Donna Psaros and Kristina Singer were reviewed. It was the consensus of those
present that some categories need to be split and/or clarified in the future.
General Assembly:
The annual general assembly was discussed. The date was set for September 7, 2008. At that
time, we will accept nominations for 3 council positions beginning January 1, 2009.
Internet Ministries:
Father Iakovos is in the process of consulting with Jennifer Borkovich to learn in her opinion
what would be the best use of our dollars for outreach. A motion by Doug Partlo, seconded by
Robert Underwood to table our involvement with the internet ministries for a year or two.
Motion passed unanimously.
Closed Session:
At the point, the council entered into a closed session to discuss confidential issues.
Budget Review:
Mr. Doug Partlo presented a copy of the proposed budget that will be sent to the Metropolitan.
Mr. Partlo and Mr. Underwood are talking with Huntington Bank about the possibility of putting
the Capital Fund and other monies into a Trust Account. After discussion, Mr. Partlo will
continue to work on the proposed budget with council’s input.
Open Discussion:
Mr. Underwood report that he had brought a chair that we could borrow for the “Bishop’s
Chair.”
Karen Kain reported that she received a bid to have the carpet cleaned professionally. A motion
by Doug Partlo, seconded by Bob Underwood to have Service Master clean the carpet for $325.
Motion passed unanimously.
Judy Weston reported that she has noticed that our Sunday Bulletin does not have our mailing
address on it. This caused some confusion when we were working on the pictures for the
directory. Since so many receive the bulletin electronically, we need to make sure that it includes
our proper mailing address.
After a closing prayer, the meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
