June Council Meeting Highlights

 

Present at our monthly council meeting held this past Wednesday were: Harriet Rennie, President; Karen Kain, Vice-President; Judy Weston, Secretary; Helen Knapp, Doug Partlo and Bob Underwood. Absent with apologies were: Fr. Iakovos, John Batsakis, Mike Dennos, Treasurer; Stephanie Long and Theresa Patterson. The council heard reports from the Stewardship Committee, the Bookstore, Taste of Greece Committee, and the Finance Committee.

The Stewardship Committee reported 71 pledge cards received for a total of $103,850 as of 6 June. Pledged monies received through the end of May were $33,004. 24% of those pledging have already fulfilled their pledges and 68%

were reported to be “on target” to fulfill their pledges by the end of the year. 18% while pledging have to date made no contributions.

Financial reports for the month of May ending 31 May indicated total income of $6,033.11 for the period against expenses of $8,992.34 resulting in a net deficit on the month of $2,959.23. After accounting for interest income that deficit is revised to $2,825.13. Year-to-date our total income is reported to be $40,216.38 placed against expenses of $50,300.72. After accounting for interest income, our net deficit for the period is $5,397.16. The financial reports were read and approved.

Our bank, National City, was approached to make a proposal with respect to our savings investments there and as yet they have not come back to us. It is anticipated that there will be a special meeting of the council to consider our savings instruments prior to the next monthly council meeting which is scheduled for Wednesday, 9 July. In other news, Doug Partlo provided a revised 2008 Budget which totals $119,700. Also, a working document to

begin discussion of the 2009 Budget was put on the table and will be remitted to committee for development prior to our Annual General Meeting in September. Members of the Finance Committee are in the process of organizing a

meeting with the Metropolitan in order to review Fr. Iakovos’ salary and compensation package as well as get insight into the expectations of the Metropolitan for our last six months of the second year of operation with a full-time priest.

Fr. Iakovos began serving this community on 1 July 2007.

The council adjourned to executive session in order to further discuss ideas with respect to the priest’s compensation package and will be considering alternatives as the budget process is played out.

Our Taste of Greece chairman, Bob Underwood reported on progress of this project and recapped meeting outcomes to the council. Everything appears to be moving on schedule and more information will be forthcoming over the next several weeks.
