PARISH COUNCIL MEETING

Call to Order:
Acting President, Karen Kain called the meeting to order at 5:40 p.m.
Members Present:
John Batsakis, Karen Kain, Doug Partlo, Dennis Stavros, Bob Underwood, and Judy
Weston.
Opening Prayer:
Father Iakovos let the assembled in the opening prayer.
Approval of the Minutes:
A motion by John Batsakis, seconded by Karen Kain to accept the minutes of the
September 10, 2007 meeting as presented. Motion passed with 5 ayes and one
abstention.
Taste of Greece:
Bob Underwood presented the final Taste of Greece report to the assembled. Our total
profit for this event was $5,907.00. A motion by Bob Underwood, seconded by Judy
Weston to transfer that amount into our Capital Fund. Motion passed unanimously.
Building Update:
John Batsakis, Doug Partlo and Father Iakovos investigate the Methodist church
property on 9th and Wadsworth in Traverse City. The asking price is in the
neighborhood of $700,000.00, which would include all the buildings on this site. A
motion by Karen Kain, seconded by Bob Underwood to not pursue this property
purchase at this time. Motion passed unanimously.
Stewardship Chair:
Karen Kain reported that Roger and Angie Dunlap have returned from their trip. She
will be talking to Roger Dunlap about the 2008 stewardship program in the upcoming
weeks.
Lease Report:
Attorney, Mike Long is preparing our lease for the Hastings Street building and it will be
signed in the near future.
Iconostasis:
Father Iakovos reported that the Iconostasis that is being give to us from Holy
Transfiguration Church (OCA) in Livonia will be arriving before the end of the month
and should be installed by early November.
Phone Line:
Discussion was held on getting our ‘business’ phone line installed either by AT&T or
Charter Communications. It will be decided at a later date.
Building & Grounds:
Doug Partlo reported that the family that had stated they would clean the church
building as part of their stewardship has decided not to do this. A motion was made by
Doug Partlo, seconded by Judy Weston to purchase a new vacuum to be used in the
church for no more than $50.00. Motion passed unanimously.
Website:
Our website is up and running and positive comments were received.
Monthly Financial Reports:
Karen Kain presented the monthly financial reports as received from A.L Mitchell &
Associates. Discussion followed. A motion by Doug Partlo, seconded by Bob
Underwood to accept the reports as presented. Motion passed unanimously.
Advertising Budget:
Discussion was held on continuing our paid advertisement in the Traverse City Record
Eagle. Our church information is currently carried in the free section of the paper. A
motion by Doug Partlo, seconded by Bob Underwood to suspend running our paid
advertisement in the Record Eagle. Motion passed unanimously.
2008 Budget:
Father Iakovos, Doug Partlo, and Bob Underwood will be working on our 2008 Budget.
Proposed Outings:
Helen Knapp proposed that we do an outing on Friday, October 26th for our senior shutins.
The cost would be $225.00. This would include a 21-person van and a licensed
driver to give our elderly a Fall Color Tour for 3 hours. A motion by Judy Weston,
seconded by Doug Partlo to sponsor this event for a cost of $225.00. Motion passed
unanimously.
Karen Kain reported that an outing for our young people at the Rennie Orchard which
would include all of the activities (hay ride, apple picking, corn maze, etc.) will be held
on Saturday, October 27th for a cost of not more than $100.00. A motion by Bob
Underwood, seconded by John Batsakis to sponsor this event for not more that
$100.00. Motion passed unanimously.
National Forum of Greek Orthodox Church Musicians:
Father Iakovos read a letter from this organization asking for donations to help their
organizations. A motion Dennis Stavros, seconded by Karen Kain to send a donation
of $100.00 to the National Forum of Greek Orthodox Church Musicians. Motion passed
unanimously.
Other Business:
The new members of the Parish Council that will taking office in January 2008 will be
sent all minutes and financial reports from this date to familiarize themselves with our
progress.
Holy Trinity in Lansing would like to give us a loukamathes machine. John Batsakis
suggested that we accept this gift with the idea that we may be able to use it in the
future.
Closing Prayer:
Father Iakovos let the assembled in the closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned
at 7:15 p.m.
